THE BALL OF EARTH ROLLS
the ball of earth rolls
____ into the east
_______________ to the west
and away
changing from day to day
out of the fog step
three deer
to their bellies in snow
come to eat the shrubs
i let them have some
and then walk out
but quietly
careful not to startle
but loud enough to steal
their silence
to give the hint of color
in my eye
___________ and scatter
but carefully
into the hidden trails
WAITING FOR A TRUCK TO MOVE
