She was looking at me that way...
Silently, I stood there. I couldn't say a word...
X takes a few steps toward me, grinning sadly, and her eyes seem set deeper in her face, at the furthest point from me. She approaches cautiously, each step measured as if to ask permission, and it seems that she is controlling not me, but time itself. To build agony, to watch this happen to me... One step closer and her body brushes against mine. Now she is here -- at me. I look across the thousand miles from my face to hers and am greeted by a cartoon grin of mischievous humility, a comical mask. She mocks her power, to squelch me.
I tell her a story. Looking her straight in the eye.
"I have experience in what you're up to... Let me just say -- it's nothing new. You wear an ancient legacy, wishing me for your temporary mentor... To accept, to fall into this solemn office, is to will my own destruction. Like others that came before you, you'll rip me to shreds."
