What Some Are Willing to Do
It's amazing what you have
to shed to stay on top, the pieces
and parts of yourself you need
to leave behind, what some are willing
to do: rent the cheap disguise, tint hair
though rarely skin.
She's a vegetarian now but her mouth
still waters for the taste
of S'mores, marshmallows fresh
from the fire -- too late she learned
they were forged from hoof and claw.
